Assertiveness and Self Esteem
Many of us can have difficulty in expressing ourselves effectively to colleagues, managers, friends or family. There can be a variety of reasons for this, however, the effects on these relationships range from frustrating to mildly disruptive to a total breakdown in communication.
Our ability to be assertive is affected by our level of self esteem. Understanding and working with this is just one step towards developing the skills of becoming assertive. Learning about verbal and non-verbal elements of behaviour and the difference between passive, aggressive and assertiveness provides a foundation for using assertiveness skills. For further development, additional work can be done on how to deal with our feelings, manage criticism and accept praise.
This work can be done one-to-one or in groups of up to 12 people. With groups a one or two day programme can be developed depending on the depth of work that would be most beneficial.
